.mosaic music festival.

Atlas.

I'm wriggling into my blog again in attempt to "un-dormant" it. Before it goes into screen saver mode.

I've been warned not to be too lazy with updating my blog as a form of ungratefulness to some who has taken the effort to check back religiously everyday. (Thanks Bronzee. Tsk.) So I will keep sleep-writing.

Since I moved in to the new place, i've enjoyed chilling at home more than ever. Ever. Ever. Ever. Listening to Stacey Kent while my fingers tapped on the keyboard, like it's a piano that I wished I had known how to play.

For 3 wkends I invited my homies over for some mashing-button good times on my very guests-welcoming home gadget - PS3. Makes me wonder my friends enjoy popping by to hangout with me or my PS3. I still love them anyway.

It was a good week. Mosaic Music Festival came and gone. A great music fiesta I've painfully waited a year for. Caught some really good gigs - PSAPP, Of Montreal, Battles, Cinematic Orchestra, Skye (vocalist of Morcheeba) and Melanie Pain (Nouvelle Vague).

I have to say Skye n Psapp were my fav gigs. Psapp playing a lovable genre of "toytronica" slapping plastic fish onto the mic, winding old clocks and toys, and squeezing a squeaking plastic chicken is definitely my kind of thing. Yea really. Skye, needless to say. She fell from the sky and brought Morcheeba closer to my ear and heart. Very endearing performers, 2 of them. Oh not forgetting how divinely butterscotch sweet Melanie Pain's voice can be. Lazy, sexy, soft-porn kinda voice. Like sizzling cotton candy crystals on a buttery hot plate.

Of Montreal n Battles were rather entertaining in their own quirky way too. Totally eccentric bunch of dudes. It would have been better if UVA came along with Battles to do a live set. I would just get a mind cramp on site. The music scene here needs to know that it's wayyyyyyyyy about time to bring in audio visual installations as part of their music bonanza. Visual stimulation is not just a perk. It's essential.

Now that I've taken a back seat chilling out more than I have my ass boogie-ing at night joints, this music festival has nicely quenched my insatiable thirst for great tunes - in a slow, groovy way. I'm happy.

Music is my soul food.

Keep feeding me.

Here's a lovable one by Psapp. ;)

.Motion Type - Dafty.

Love the neo-colors of this one. And the absolute simplicity of the other.

.move type.

Awesome motion typography.

In my favourite colors.

No colors.

.please say something.

He triggers all kinds of senses, with this little animation. Using compression artefacts or "datamoshing" - a term he so despises.

.unheard, still.

This was 16 years ago, at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development, also known as the Rio Summit, Earth Summit (or, in Portuguese, Eco '92), a major conference held in Rio de Janeiro from June 3 to June 14, 1992. the UN international Environmental Conference.

Did anybody listen?

I guess not.

And then you think - what ever happened to the scene where I'm at. Godamnit.

.lost generation.

This is not new. Have seen an ad about politics that used the same technique. But somehow I just can't find it again... Thought that was even better.

.guitar hero - as he is.

Making me fall in love with this song all over again.

And, the reason I'm actually playing my Guitar hero. Tsk.

Version by "Funtwo"

Rock version originally arranged by Jerry C from Taiwan. I still like the original better. This guy puts more feelings to it.

And now the Guitar Hero version. >:)

.superuseless me please.

A new era of heroes.

Better than the real thing.

SUPERUSELESS SUPERPOWER: Laser Pointer Vision*
Your gaze isn't strong enough to burn through anything, just strong enough to point things out. Makes prolonged eye contact particularly awkward and painful during romantic dinners and job interviews.

And this gotta be my favourite.

SUPERUSELESS SUPERPOWER: Achieving 99% opacity, a.k.a. The Slightly Invisible Man.
This throwaway power lets you vanish into thin air as long as that thin air is obscured by enough thick air to cover up the other 99% of your completely visible body. Sorry, no dice on landing that plum invisibility role in the sequel to Ghost Dad either.

For more. Go superuseless yourself here.

.8 bit hero.

I just got myself a set of Guitar Hero.

Being the "Mario Princess" - as what my peers nicknamed me (Thanks Xavier), its about time that I actually do some gaming since our family is in this mini kingdom business of gaming (it's just a small reseller shop not like I'm the daughter of CEO of Playstation or something). Think the last time i actually played and enjoyed tapping on the little remote was when my Dad 1st got me a set of ATARI. I was only 4 yrs old. Didn't quite enjoy anything else after that.

Though I don't play games much  (even though the resources and selections are at my disposal),  I have to say it's interesting how playing sets so much motivation in one person and I would like to watch and observe that, than I want to be part of it. I enjoy watching people enjoying themselves. That's why I have a set of PS3 at my new home to entertain my guests, so I could watch them play. Uncanny.

Speaking of my irreplaceable 8-bit love. Here's an NES emulation game that plays Guitar Hero on an old skool Nintendo - created by Kent Hansen and Andreas Pedersen.

There are only 4 songs right now (donate to the creators and you could get to pick a song to go into version 2.0) but they’re the perfect four songs: “Sweet Child O’ Mine”, “Harder Better Faster Stronger” (the original Daft Punk version - not the Kanye), “The Way You Make Me Feel”, and “The Swing Of Things.”

Here's one from one of my fav. electronic music prodigies.

You can check out vids of Pedersen playing all the songs here. If you’re really into, then sign the online petition for Ninteno Wii to produce the game.

And for those who had the luxury of getting yourself a Nintendo back in 1996. Here's a true classic to rhythmic sequence game.

I loved that to bits. Even though I never made it past stage 5.

.WE SEE MUSIC. -Flight 404

Embroynic video - "Solar, with Lyrics",  set to Goldfrapp's sensual track "Lovely Head".

.WE SEE MUSIC. - Chairlift - "Evident Utensil"

It’s happened to you at least once — a color explosion on your screen created by an ill-fated download or a codec mismatch. A compression algorithm slip-up can introduce surprising colors and patterns but retain strange motion memories of the original video.

Riding on the datamosh trend, Kanye West has been keeping up to new kicks and making sure his vidz spell forward for him.

"Welcome to Heartbreak" directed by Nabil Elderkin.

Premiered his music video by Chairlift, Ray Tintori's datamosh video is a tad less gloss and expensive, yet I somehow prefer them keeping rawness as it is, raw. And the song is pretty nice too.

.moving.

My fingers had been feeling a tad lazy to be waltzing on the keyboard lately. Shame on them.

I hope that the new place i'm moving to will be a condusive place where I can finally be doing what I wanna do. Watch some TV, read my books, and think about bigger and smaller things in life. U know, simple things. That I had long ago taken granted for.

Work had been a madhouse (what's new), but I had been pacing up to meet different schedules mainly to get my life reorganized again. I'm finally moving out of the shithole where pigs would be happy to find refuge in. The place where I had to do a mini hurdle from the living room to get to my bedroom, the place where I'm still trying to figure out which pile of clothes are the dirty ones and which are the i-tried-on-and-nah-not-for-today ones. I am a sloth.

I blame it on work, the time i had left by the time I stepped into my lonely apartment. Though i use the word "lonely", I actually mean it more as "alone".

I don't feel lonely at all. I adore time alone in fact. I'm beginning to wonder if it's the age thing. I used to be such a social butterfly (moth, really). Now i just loathe small talks coz I'm so lack of the luxury of time to devote on unnecessary things and people.

I feel like I want to do a hundred things a day. (Though I usually think accomplishing 2 is a big deal.) Like finally terminating my old phone line is like a BIG strike off from my To-Do's list. Not falling asleep at work is another.

A big pitch has came and gone. I'm still waiting for my boss to come give me a pat on my shoulder and say that it was worthy not going home from office and in my stinky shirt dress for 3 days. He hasn't.

Now that I found a new place. I am hopeful with this new beginning thing as opposed to my semi-zodiac-cursed 2009. I'm not saying that i believe in it, I'm just saying that I don't like to be cursed.

As I was saying paragraphs before. I adore this new estate. But i am under major pressure to be watching my volume and keep it down, considering a muzzle for my yappy dog (her name is Yokie) and watching a action-blast movie on my headphone all because I seriously think I might have just moved into an estate where anti-nocturnal-zombies gather.

It's quiet at 10pm. And my life starts only after 12 midnight.

I just got a fairly kickass sound system, and yet I can't potentialize it.

Fuck ass.

"Miller High Life is hoping to go for the trifecta with a one-second ad that’s meant to be a budget-friendly but attention-grabbing campaign."

I find this hilarious.

.Zurich!.

Getting on internet is freaking expensive here in Europe. It'll cost 7 euros for 30mins and 26euros for full day. Now that we are staying in this little humble hotel at Interlaken, Wi-fi is free at the reception level.

But I overslept the privilege.

Now we are checking out.

Till the next free wi-fi service!

.edtnemtnioppasid.

Goa came and gone. It was beautiful and ugly at the same time. That's almost all I can say.

It had been a bad year end. I feel a good new year.

I have lost myself. Mostly the good part of it. Being tested constantly - Sorry, I am worn out too indeed. Just walk away. Before i sink my teeth deeper.

I am as unpredictable to myself as of to you.

My smiles are expensive now. Maybe you can't afford it. Maybe that's why you stop paying for it.

There will be a lot of changes. Good or bad, I am almost ready.

Goodbye familiarity.

P/S: Sarcasm is a double edged sword. Use it sparingly.

.dusty dust.

I'm back.

Left this space deserted for awhile coz I had no time to spend infront of a computer during my 17 days venture in india. Wanted to stay off tec-no-lo-gy for awhile. And was too lazy to be writing too.

Now im back to reality, let me recollect my thoughts and share my long yearned trip to Goa in abit. Right now, i gotta have some food.

Good thing i don't have to go back to work tomorrow.

Damn i want to be a full time traveller.

One who can afford to be.

.stale.

I'm feeling queasy about my imminent holiday.

Work had been hell and the only look forward to is to getaway. Now it seems like it's just one more thing to worry about.

I'm going India. A land of chaos as it already is, more so now with the multiple attacks. I would be less afraid if they were going for the government - as always. Now that they are preying on us - the tourists.

One of ours got shot the day she checked in at the hotel - when she was supposed to be there just for a night, going back home the next day. Blame it on the bad luck, blame it on the terrorists, blame it on her boss who made her go for that stupid conference, but blame no one when it has already happened and change is not an option.

Blame it on choices.

Chaos is always a good mix in life - especially coming from a urban city spoilt brat like myself. I'm almost driven mad with systems and structure, that i am beginning to embrace disruptions. Break the pattern and see how people go mad. Rearrange the sequence and see people lose their way. I seem to have a streak of luck of losing mine. Picking up faith again along the way i lose them.

I'm not sure if I am unexcited about the trip because of the multiple signs dropped to dishearten or create fear, or just that I am losing enthusiasm in plans that would fly. As proven again, the best plan to have is to have no plans.

No expectations allow room for surprises.

I have a huge ass warehouse for it now. Please. Bring it on if you may.

WE SEE MUSIC #EXYZT - BOOMBOX!

They did it again.

I haven't even gotten over the last project they did and now they are here to give me another attack at the heart. It's brain frying and I am totally disgusted at the people who are there in place of me.

EXYZT latest projection mapping music/lights/architectural installation - BOOMBOX took place on 4th Oct 2008 without sending me a black envelope sealed with a private invitation to this event. How dare they. I need to be there next time. Take me to France. Please.

Warning - Not for the faint hearted and weak mind.

On a side note, the last scene looks very much like HBO's glory project - Voyeur done last year. Whatever, they still rock my Grandmother's socks.

HBO Voyeur (If you have no clue about this - you should.)

WE SEE MUSIC #EXYZT - Etienne De Crecy!

Been so fuckin busy that i havent been following up.

Anyway, now that "Human" performance by The Killers at MTV EMA awards (posted below) is not as original as we thought it was, heres the other dudes supposedly behind this awesome projection mapping music visualization, which was done b4 MTV times.
Albeit their source of inspiration uncovered, I would not discount the fact that MTV production crew still did a great job entertaining at the awards.
The difference is that Etienne De Crecy's visuals are projected on semi-transparent screens (for added illusion of depth) while The Killer's act was projected on LCD screens.

Tipped by Kentie and Tomas, the brainchild behind this amazing installation (behind the much raved about EMA performance for The Killers by unknown mimic visual artist) is Parisian crew EXYZT who are a team of architects, designers, geniuses technicians etc..

"The show is an hour of visual mapping and projections on a big cube, while de Crecy is playing live electronic music, and triggering the lights and visual sequences, standing in the middle cube, inside the installation. The setup is very effective, they used semi-transparent material to give more depth to the projections, and all the content is perfectly mapped to the structure, and produced with a very specific technique, to give the impression that the cubes are actually in 3D, and to create depth and volume.

In fact there is only one projector, and all the magic comes from the clever setup and the quality of production."

/source AntiVJ's blog  (Another awesome visual artist collectives - whom i'll get to for their stunning work in next bits.)

Heres some other work by EXYZT.

Mapping on building:

Mapping on Scaffolding building (i love the track used for this):

And a little quirky one using city lights and beat of life in Tokyo as rythmn to the music.

I think these people should be made Knights of the Sonic Kingdom.

Coming soon.... AntiVJ.  >:)
